The Indiana Hoosiers are hosting the Michigan State Spartans in college basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Smith scored a career-high 24 points, helping the Hoosiers beat the sixth-ranked Spartans 63-62 on Saturday.
The loss snapped a five-game Spartans win streak and robbed the Spartans of momentum gathered from its upset win over MI last Sunday.
Cassius Winston (19.2 ppg, 7.5 apg) has really shined, pacing the Spartans in scoring and putting up 27 points against the Wolverines last weekend. "The other guys, they stepped up today".
Michigan State shot 60 percent from the field in the first half compared to 34 from in, but also turned the ball over nine times and led by just seven points.
With their first consecutive wins over top 25 teams since 2015-16, IN is now playing their "best" basketball at the right time of the season. The Hoosiers also attacked Michigan State on the glass for much of the second half, outrebounding them on the offensive end 15 to 5 on the night, including a 10 to 1 advantage in the second half. Senior forward Kenny Goins aided the team effort with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Spartans coach Tom Izzo isn't anxious about taking revenge against the Hoosiers on Saturday.
Junior Ae'Rianna Harris did the bulk of the scoring for the Boilermakers, finishing with 19 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Freshman guard Romeo Langford (17.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg) is clearly the player to watch for the Hoosiers, and he is expected to be a lottery pick in this year's National Basketball Association draft. Forward Nick Ward (hand) remains doubtful and shooting guard Matt McQuaid is day-to-day after suffering a sprained ankle in practice this week. Their record in the Big Ten has also been mint, they have won 14 games and have just lost 3 and sit on top of the league. IU defeated Michigan State, 79-75 in overtime, in early February in East Lansing, Michigan.
"I thought we outplayed them for 38 minutes and we didn't win the game", Izzo said.
If the Hoosiers can sweep the remaining two games, then make some mild noise in the league tournament, in might find itself receiving a pair of dancing slippers. For the game, Michigan State finished with 14 turnovers.
