Trump blasts theories of body double of his wife Melania

President Trump ripped a conspiracy theory suggesting his wife Melania sometimes uses a body double to make appearances - and blamed the media in the process.

"The View" hosts had commented on how the woman at Trump's side in photos of the trip appeared shorter than usual and had a different facial structure than the first lady's. "You mean there are two women who have to pretend they're listening to (President Trump)?"

But the US President has now hit back at the rumours - following fresh body double claims circulating earlier this week after the First Lady was pictured with her husband in Georgia, US. "Instead, they go after her", Trump said Monday.

Trump tweeted Wednesday decrying a fourth estate which, he argues, is "getting more deranged with time!". One host allowed that the first lady might have been wearing flat shoes.

"@flotus & @potus traveled to Alabama to pay their respects & comfort victims of the tornado devastation". Trump was referring to President John F. Kennedy's wife, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who often was referred to as "Jackie O" after she remarried following Kennedy's assassination. "Sorry", Behar said of one photo.

The first lady's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham called the show's joking on the subject "shameful".

The "View" panelists weighed in on several photos of the First Lady during the segment, discussing whether the woman in the photos was really her.

"People died, people lost family and people are hurting in Alabama", Grisham continued in her statement.

"When there's a rumor like this, and memes all over the place, I think it catches on because there's an element of truth to the idea that she doesn't want to spend time with him", Behar added.
