Charlie Coyle scored an empty-net goal from distance with 2:13 left to play, and Chris Wagner scored 11 seconds later to add an exclamation point, capping off a period where the Bruins scored four unanswered goals to earn the home victory.

BY THE NUMBERS: 10 - The number of goals that Sebastian Aho has scored in nine career games vs. the Bruins after getting another one on Thursday night.

David Krejci scored in the first period, and Marcus Johansson and David Backes had third-period goals for the Bruins, who gave up four power plays to the Blue Jackets but stonewalled Columbus on a number of chances.

Carolina Hurricanes Goalie Curtis McElhinney (35) and Carolina Hurricanes Goalie Petr Mrazek (34) celebrate after the Carolina Hurricanes clinch their first playoff birth since 2009 during a game between the New Jersey Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC on April 4, 2019.

It really put a spotlight on Carolina's inexperience in a big moment in Game 1 when they were holding a 2-1 lead into the final period and had Boston in a comfortable spot after a "meh" second period from the Black and Gold. Curtis McElhinney finished off NY, but coach Rod Brind'Amour went back to Mrazek when he was clear by doctors after the five-day break between series.

Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour called his timeout to settle things down.

"I don't really care", he said.

The shot hit right off the outside of his right foot and he was clearly in pain on the bench. The Blue Jackets had 1:41 of the power play remaining to start the third period but again couldn't capitalize. He also drew the boarding penalty on Staal in the third period that led to Boston's first power-play goal and got the B's off and running for the rest of the period in their comeback win.

Near the end of the second, Boston's Charlie McAvoy almost took off Josh Anderson's head with a hit, but the officials leveled only a two-minute minor penalty for an illegal check. McAvoy was averaging a team-high 24:26 ice time, and Chara was third.

Not only did that goal tie the game but it was a good sign for the Hurricanes, who have struggled mightily on the power play this postseason.

Johansson doubled the score at 8:58 of the third when Bobrovsky got a piece of his shot from the top of the slot but it trickled behind him into the net. McKegg was pushed into Rask by Kempfer and the net was dislodged, but the puck crossed the goal line before any contact was made.
