Snapchat's parent company, Snap Inc, said in its annual report it used Google Cloud, but neither company responded to questions about whether the Snapchat outage was linked to the Google Cloud issues.
Just after 4:30 p.m., Google said the issue was ongoing and that they were experiencing high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple services in the Google Cloud, including YouTube and GSuite, which includes Gmail e-mail service, Google Drive, Google Hangouts, Google Calendar, and more, as well as YouTube.
Google services, including YouTube, Gmail and Snapchat, have been down this Sunday afternoon.
"Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors", said the company.
The issues appear to be mainly affecting users on the East Coast of the United States, according to The Verge.
In addition to popular social media sites, Google Cloud is relied on by a variety of large-scale companies, including Weight Watchers, PayPal and Target.
Google Search was still functioning normally as of 4 p.m. Sunday, but GMail and its associated apps were shown as out of commission on the G Suite Status Dashboard.
