Another slightly disappointing detail is that the Switch Lite only supports games that work in handheld mode, so forget about playing titles like Super Mario Party on the new system. It offers another level of performance and plays a completely different set of games, and it also comes in at $100 less than its $300 big sibling.
Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser said the new system gives gamers more color and price point options.
The directional buttons are the main reason I nearly never play my Switch without my Pro Controller, and they're demonstrably inferior to a traditional clicky D-Pad in every conceivable way - so much so that players quickly took to modding a proper D-Pad onto their Joy-Cons shortly after the Switch launched.
Do you have a Nintendo Switch that you never, ever connect to your TV? But the Switch Mini does not include the (flimsy) built-in kickstand of the original unit, making it awkward to play games in "tabletop mode" without an additional accessory to prop it up. As the name suggests, Switch Lite is a smaller, lighter variation of the original Switch.
According to Nintendo, the Nintendo Switch Lite is a device "dedicated to handheld gameplay".
Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo Switch Lite. It doesn't feature HD Rumble (Nintendo's vibration tech for controllers) or an IR motion camera. You can still pair Joy-Cons with the Switch Lite, but that's a bit silly when there are already controllers on the device and motion controls are rarely integral to the experience.
The $200 device is, for all intents and purposes, a new portable gaming system from Nintendo.
The new console will be made available on September 20, and it'll be priced at $199.99.
The regular Switch dimensions, with Joy-Cons attached, is 102mm x 239mm x 13.9mm.
The Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite differ in a few aspects. The screen is 5.5 inches in diagonal and the batter life will last 3-7 hours. Nintendo says that it will clearly mark games in retail packaging and online.
