Lions QB Matthew Stafford could miss up to 3 weeks with fractured back bones

The 31-year-old had started 136 regular-season games for Detroit before he was discarded for the team's Week 10 game in Chicago.

Stafford nearly never misses time and has been an iron man in the league since an injury riddled 2010 season after his first year in the league. Jeff Driskel and David Blough are next up on the team's QB depth chart.

Baltimore, fresh from handing the New England Patriots their first loss last week, moved to 7-2 with a 49-13 annihilation of the winless Bengals.

The reasons, according to ESPN, were fractured bones in Stafford's back, an injury that reportedly dates back to previous year.

The next morning, Stafford evidently gave in to doctors' suggestions for further tests on his back. The 11th-year veteran and Lions' all-time leading passer was a limited practice participant this week, and per Schefter, was uncorking 60-yard throws during Friday's workout, making Sunday's news all the more stunning.

Patrick Mahomes, the reigning MVP, was unable to lead the Kansas City Chiefs past the Tennessee Titans, despite throwing for over 400 yards in his return from a dislocated kneecap. I know I can speak for all of us when I say it's always nice to beat the Bears. "I'm not really anxious about it. Something different, but I'm totally fine". On Sunday morning, multiple reports indicated that Stafford would be inactive in Chicago.

ESPN reported Stafford's injury would keep him sidelined up to three weeks, though he was being considered week-to-week. It dates back to the 2018 season, where he reportedly played through breaks - all while not missing a game.

November 6: Stafford tells reporters he's "fine" and will be "good to go" against the Bears despite pain in his back.
