We don't know a lot about the new chips at this point, but we do know that Qualcomm is focussing on the three key areas of camera capabilities, AI, and multiplayer gaming. That could extend battery life, of course, but it should also make 5G handsets more affordable. As expected, the company has announced the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 mobile platform, along with a couple of other chipsets. But what devices will feature the latest and greatest Snapdragon chip?

"5G will open new and exciting opportunities to connect, compute, and communicate in ways we've yet to imagine and we are happy to be a key player driving the adoption of 5G around the world", Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon said in a prepared statement. The Galaxy S11 and LG G9 are other smartphones that we can expect to see with new flagship chipset in the first quarter of 2020.

As for the Snapdragon 765, Motorola appeared at the Qualcomm event to pledge that it would use the new chip to bring 5G to a wider class of devices. Note that the 765 has integrated 5G, while the flagship model requires the support of a separate 5G modem. The Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 lines are official and ready to dominate the Android landscape in 2020. They should improve performance in categories like AI and 8K video capture (Qualcomm won't share much more until December 4th), but this time around the highest-end chip isn't the star.

One question will be how Qualcomm treats 5G.

But Qualcomm is also teasing that there's going to be some gaming-related news, having tweeted that a special guest is going to be helping with the big reveal. The first of these should be with us in early 2020.

We are on site all week to keep you informed of the latest developments, but if you want to view the various keynote comments from Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit, you can do that too.

Snapdragon 865 chipset will certainly come baked into nearly every flagship smartphone, including the Galaxy S11 series, in 2020.

In the same press release, OPPO also confirmed that an upcoming smartphone, likely the Reno 3 Pro 5G, will launch in Q1 2020 with the Snapdragon 865.
