According to the CDC, "most of the flu vaccines are made using an egg-based vaccine by private manufacturers who inject candidate vaccine viruses into a fertilized hen's egg". The individual, who was tested voluntarily, agreed to remain home in accordance with U.S. CDC guidelines, and has fully cooperated with state health officials, Long said in a statement.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are only 14 confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus in the USA, with 66 more under investigation.

The agency's Tom Haupt says this morning alone, they had reports of at least 100 new hospitalizations. The Midlands and Low Country regions have each reported 11 deaths, and there have been 17 in the Pee Dee this season, according to DHEC.

A 33-year-old North Olmsted man has died from flu, bringing the number of flu-related deaths this season to nine in Cuyahoga County, according to the county's board of health.

Experts say it is potentially a bad time for an extended flu season, given concerns about the new coronavirus out of China, which can cause symptoms that can be hard to distinguish from flu without testing.

"Four of my roommates had the flu at the beginning of the semester", said Boluwarin Dairo, a junior computer science major from Lagos, Nigeria.

"In some populations, it can be quite serious, especially in younger children, people over 65 and pregnant women or anyone with a compromised immune system", said Gerrard.

"We take into consideration patterns of flu from different years, different types of flu going across the globe", said Mary Parrish with the Brazos County Health District.

"That is the No. 1 prevention tip", said Gerrard.

The threat to the new coronavirus isn't ignored, said Gerrard, but she said OR has a "very low" risk of seeing very many cases of the new malady.

That's why Haupt says it's still not too late to get a flu shot. "The truth is in the future that certainly can change, but right now the biggest threat for us is still influenza virus", he said.
