Jussie Smollett indicted in Chicago on multiple counts in relation to 2019 alleged hoax attack

According to ABC News, Jussie Smollett has officially been indicted on new charges after the investigation was re-opened related to his 2019 alleged attack.

"After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett's volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case", the Cook County State's Attorney's office said in a statement.

During the alleged attack, Smollett claimed they shouted, "This is MAGA country!" With time behind bars again a real possibility, Smollett was indicted on six counts of disorderly conduct over falsely reporting the assault by a Cook County grand jury.

The special prosecutor tasked with investigating the handling of the Jussie Smollett hoax attack allegations in Chicago has indicted the former "Empire" actor, almost a year after previous charges against Smollett were dropped.

Tina Glandian, Smollett's attorney, did not immediately return a call for comment.

Smollett is due to appear in court on February 24.

But shortly afterwards, Chicago police held a dramatic news conference, accusing Smollett of a hoax.

Webb also was looking into whether calls that Kim Foxx, the Cook county state's attorney, had with a Smollett relative and an ex-aide of Michelle Obama had unduly influenced the decision to drop charges. In June of a year ago, Judge Michael Toomin agreed, saying that Foxx's office had failed to fully recuse itself from the decision.

Smollett, who is a gay African-American, told police a year ago that two men attacked him as he was walking home around 2a.m. on January 29, 2019, punching him and putting a noose around his neck while shouting, "this is MAGA country", along with racist and anti-gay slurs. The actor never paid up, forcing the city to sue to collect the funds.

Despite the growing case against him, prosecutors mysteriously dropped all charges against Smollett in March.

Smollett's case has become an issue in Foxx's bid for a second term.
