NewsSki bunnies in hibernation as Mt. Washington closes for the season
It’s finally time for ski bunnies to swap their snow suits for swim suits now that Mt. Washington’s long season is over. The mountain stayed open for an extra two weeks this year because of a big snow base and fresh powder. The ski hill closed on April 22. “It’s a little soft for snow at the beginning but then January, February, March held true to the Mt. Washington way,” says Director of Business Operations at Mt. Washington, Don Sharpe. The slopes are completely closed yet. There will be the Snow to Surf race on Sunday, April 29 starting at Mt. Washington and then the mountain will transition into a hiking and biking spot for the summer. While some people might never want to turn in their skis, Sharpe says there are plenty of things to do off the mountain. “Most people have found other things to do now. It’s April, there’s gardening, golfing, boating, you name it,” says Sharpe. Mt. Washington had the fourth snowiest year on record in 2012. Most Viewed Stories
