Lewis Centre expansion plans unveiled
The finishing touches are underway on a major renovation and expansion to Courtenay's Lewis Centre and residents will soon get a sneak peak on what the project will look like.
The public is invited to have their first look at the plans for the Lewis Centre expansion and renovation project on Thursday, May 3 at 6:30 pm at the Courtenay Recreation Lewis Centre.
"This is going to be fantastic for the user, not only will we be improving multi-purpose use and providing more opportunities for the public, but we will also have a safer and healthier building for the public in terms of ventilation and mechanical operations," enthused Randy Wiwchar, the City’s director of community services.
Wiwchar says the design is the result of months of consultation with staff and user groups.
“We’ve gone back and forth over every detail with the architect, trying to figure out what’s going to work best for our wide range of users, while staying within our budget. We think the project is going to make a huge difference in the comfort and usability of the Lewis Centre.”
The Information Session will feature a presentation by project manager Blair Pettis the Lewis Centre Meeting Room. Display panels will show the most up to date floor plans and exterior design.
The $5.4 million project will add 11,200 sq. ft. to the facility, and modify 3,200 sq. ft. of existing space. Improvements will include a new wellness centre that is nearly four times as large as the existing weight room, new large and small multi-purpose rooms, increased accessibility, storage, as well as better energy efficiency and ventilation.
