The President of the Comox District Teachers Association is sounding the alarm on future potential budget cuts by the Comox Valley School Board.

"The board has yet to pass the budget, but they did mention that it looks they are facing severe cuts next year," said Steve Stanley.

"The deficit sits at somewhere between $1.3 million to $1.7 million and our concerns are we don't know where the cuts are falling and what will happen as a result of those cuts," continued Stanley.

Stanley says the CDTA is concerned about service reductions and the impact on staffing.

"We do know that staffing is being cut and services to students are also going to be cut for next year, so we are just looking for more information as to specifics on what will be cut in making up that fiscal shortfall."

The Comox Valley School Board will submit their budget for public feedback in May at which time District 71 will outline what will likely be cutbacks to both staffing and operations expenses.
