BC Hydro is extending its public safety warning to stay away from the Puntledge River through Sunday.

The river flows will remain high to allow BC Hydro to drop the Comox Lake Reservoir level and provide more room in the reservoir for the upcoming snow melt.

"We are also working with Fisheries and Oceans Canada on the summer Chinook runs that will be entering the system in May," explained BC Hydro spokesperson Stephen Watson.

"Looking ahead we will be looking to lower the river flows a bit at that time in consideration of the Lower Puntledge River Hatchery Program.

Watson says no downstream flooding is expected this spring despite a huge snowpack melt this season.
