As a result of the Federal Government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund three organizations in Vancouver Island North will increase  accessibility for people with disabilities and enable them to participate more fully in their community. 

 

John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, to the following organizations who will be receiving grant funding under the Enabling Accessibility Fund.

 

“Our Government recognizes the abilities of all Canadians and is committed to removing barriers to participation for people with disabilities,” said MP John Duncan.“We are proud to work with local organizations in helping Canadians gain greater access to facilities, programs and services in their communities.”

 

Three organizations in Vancouver Island North are receiving $127,880 in funding for  the following projects:The Merville Community Association will receive $37,880 to renovate two washrooms in the Merville Community Hall.Campbell River & District Association for Community Living will receive $50,000 to install an elevator. St Joseph's General Hospital Foundation, The P.A.R.C Project - Physical Activation and Recreation Center will receive $40,000 to extend the existing physical therapy  program space.

 

Through the Enabling Accessibility Fund, the government has supported over 800 projects across the country, including 188 new projects totalling $6.2 million that were recently announced.
