RCMP disprove hit and run claims
A cyclist phoned 911 on Friday afternoon saying she'd been knocked into a ditch by a passing car, that had since fled the scene. However, the RCMP members who attended on Headquarters Road in Courtenay couldn't find any evidence to support that story.
"We showed up along with the Ambulance Service and we located an intoxicated female. All appearances are that she was not struck by a vehicle," said Constable Nicole Hall. "She more than likely was walking her bike and fell into the ditch as a result of her inebriation."
Hall says the woman was checked over by paramedics and found to be free from injury. She was escorted home where a family member was avaliable to look after her.
"At the end of the day, we were able to ensure she did make it home safely, which is better than her still out wandering on the side of the road, which could have been a danger to others, as well as herself," said Hall. "That's what we're here for, so we made sure she got home safely."
