The 16 year old youth charged with the murder of 19 year old James Denton near the Courtenay Fairgrounds back in July, has appeared in Courtenay court in a video linkup from the Wilkinson Road Victoria Jail.

The accused opted for a BC Supreme court trial by judge, and a date for a preliminary hearing will be set in the next court appearance on November tenth.

Both youths had been attending the Rythm on the Rock concert at the Comox Valley Exhibition grounds last summer.

The youth faces a murder charge in the case, and a publication ban remains in force for all court proceedings.

During a previous court appearance, family members of the victim confronted the family of the accused outside the courthouse, and emotions continue to run high in the case.
