BC Teachers vote to ban extracurricular activities
The province's teachers have voted to pull all services for extracurricular activities, a move which could have a huge impact on Comox Valley graduation events, sports activities and school drama productions.
The B.C. Teachers Federation recently put togther an action plan and teachers voted on the strategy this week, with 73 per cent approving the plan.
"The vote related to extracurricular activities, but it also includes several other steps, and we feel although the percentage may not seem that high, it does represent some strong feelings against Bill 22," explained Comox District Teachers Association President Steve Stanley.
"Our key motivation behind this vote, is that we want to maintain public awareness about Bill 22, and we want people to recognize the changing working conditions in our schools."
The action plan also included the possibility of a future vote on a walkout although Stanley says that has not been top of mind in recent BCTF discussions.
