NewsFree ride for busiest Empire day
Everyone loves a parade! Now you can travel to the Empire Days Parade in the Comox Valley for free. BC Transit will operate a special service between Downtown Courtenay and Downtown Cumberland on May 21st, 2012. The “Special #2 Cumberland” will run from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, May 21. The service also features a Park & Ride at Driftwood Mall. Buses will be loading at the Zellers entrance to the Driftwood Mall. Transit service is not usually provided on statutory holidays in Comox Valley. This special service is courtesy of the Comox Valley Regional District, and is offered free of charge. “I know how access to convenient parking can be during Empire Days,” said Comox Valley MLA Don McRae. “I encourage Comox Valley residents to use transit and come celebrate with Cumberland.” "Last year, 165 riders took the free bus between Courtenay and Cumberland during Empire Days,” said Comox Valley Regional District board chair Edwin Grieve. “That is over three times what the #2 Cumberland bus sees on a typical day, which is a measurable success in terms of moving people in an environmentally-friendly way. This year we hope even more people take advantage of this great free service to get to Cumberland and enjoy the village’s historic celebration.” “BC Transit hopes our free bus service, in partnership with the Comox Valley Regional District, will make the parade a great success and a true reflection of the dynamic community we are so proud to be a part of,” said Manuel Achadinha, President and CEO of BC Transit.
