Community Futures Strathcona has just decided to make its headquarters in Campbell River instead of Courtenay.

The company is a goodwill lender that provides capital and support to small businesses. It covers ground from Fanny Bay to Sayward and businesses in between.

Up until March 2012, Community Futures Strathcona had offices in both the Comox Valley and in Campbell River but when it came time to consolidate the offices, Campbell River won.

“We thought we were going to move to Courtenay but Campbell River just didn’t want us to go and gave us a smoking deal on our space up here,” says Marc Crane, General Manager at CFS.

Technology made having two offices redundant and Crane says he and his staff do most of his work on the road, meeting clients face-to-face.

“We just have to be a little but more creative so I’m on the road and I actually meet the clients at their place of business which is fabulous,” says Crane. “It gives me a different perspective and gets me out of the office.”

Since 1985, CFS has facilitated 900 loans and helped create and maintain 3,000 jobs.
