The Comox Valley's Car Free Sunday has been given the green light for Father's Day Sunday June 17, 2012.

"We are doing this in collaboration with the Vancouver Car Free Sunday so there is going to be a whole Vancouver Island-Vancouver collaboration on that Sunday and we are happy to announce we have been approved to go ahead in Courtenay and Cumberland," explained event organizer Peter Vorster.

Vorster clarified what Car Free Sunday is all about.

"This is not against cars, what we are trying to do is reclaim some of our public spaces, specifically our roads, for all kinds of uses, the folks from Imagine Comox Valley are really encouraging the people of the Comox Valley to use their imagination".
