Music students set course for NYC
89 students of Mark R. Isfeld Secondary are packing their bags, buzzing with anticipation for the trip of a lifetime.
Members of the concert band, the jazz band and the choir will be accompanied to New York City by nine chaperones, including music teacher Wayne Kuhnert.
"The kids are pretty excited. The countdown is on, right down to the minute," said Kuhnert.
The group is set to fly out of Vancouver on Saturday, with a packed itinerary.
"We're going to go and see Wicked on Broadway, to the top of the Rockerfeller Centre, we're also going to be part of the audience at the Today Show, have a tour of Radio City Music Hall, a clinic for the bands on Broadway and we have two performances scheduled as well."
Kuhnert says this is a twist on the school's annual bus tour.
"We just started talking about something a little different for the students, than doing a week-long performance tour on a bus," he explained. "We thought New York would be an awesome opportunity to showcase more music and show what the students could potentially do with music in the future."
