Students at Beachcombers Community School in Fanny Bay have been inspired by YTV's Next Star finalist Parker Schmidt on Tuesday.

A grade 6 Beachcombers student wrote the burgeoning star as part of a school project. Unbeknownst to her, Parker’s family who live in Duncan, contacted the school and offered a performance.

The school kept it a complete surprise for students, anticipating a lot of excitement.

Parker Schmidt is 13 years old. Last year, his sisters encouraged him to audition for YTV's The Next Star. He not only auditioned but made the Top 6 and became a finalist.

Going to Toronto was “the experience of a lifetime,” according to Parker. His favorite moments on the show were being able to work with many professionals and in particular to co-write his single It Might Be You with producer Shawn Desman. Shooting a music video was also a highlight for him, as well as becoming best friends with the other Top 6 on The Next Star!

Parker encourages other students to follow their dreams whatever they may be.

Parker has been on YTVʼs Mr. Young and has been signed withPLAY management in Vancouver. Most recently Parker has been in the recording studio and anticipates the release of his own EP this summer, as well as the launch of his website.
